Hiking with Pack Goats


My wife and I recently explored the New Cuyama foothills with pack goats. One of our favorite roadside places to eat is Cuyama Buckhorn, which is located along California State Route 166. We travel the 166 often on our way to explore Carrizo Plain National Monument, and when we head south to visit friends in the Inland Empire. When my wife learned that they were offering goat hikes, she signed us up for the beginner ranch land hike. We were not certain what to expect, but it sounded fun.

Castello di Amorosa - Napa Valley Castle Winery in Calistoga


Last week, my wife and I explored Castello di Amorosa (Castle of Love) in Napa Valley. After a guided tour, we tasted wine with some friendly folks who were visiting from Michigan, Colorado, and Nebraska. We also met a young couple that was visiting from France who shared that the California wine experience was much different than in France. They found California wine much more varied and sweeter. 2023 California Rodeo Salinas


My wife and I head to the rodeo any chance we get. This weekend we explored California Rodeo Salinas for the first time. These folks know how to rodeo, and you can tell this was not their first rodeo. The grounds were immaculate, all the staff and volunteers were friendly and went out of their way to assist us, and the entire operation ran like a well-oiled machine.
